A supplication attributed to Socrates—peace be upon him:

O Allah! I ask You, O Causer of causes (Mu'ill al-'Ilal), O Primordial (Qadim), O Eternal (Azali), O He who acts whenever He wills: guide me along a straight line, not a crooked line, for the crooked has no end.

I request whosoever comes across this book to supplicate for its compiler and scribe—the one impoverished before Allah the Exalted, who hopes for the prayers of his brethren.

Written by: Salman Tahir 'Abd al-Rahman. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds, and may the blessings of Allah be upon our master Muhammad and upon his good, pure family. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds. This was completed on Rajab 27, in the year 1393 AH, corresponding to August 25, in the year 1973 CE. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds.

Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds.

I asked one of the gnostics about the definition of the Soul (al-Nafs) and the Intellect (al-'Aql), and he replied: "Verily, the Universal Soul (al-Nafs al-Kulliyyah) was prepared for the sake of the Intellect; thus, it is its form and its veil. The Intellect is originated directly from the Divine Essence (al-Dhat); thus, it is its light and its veil.
