Whoever worshiped the Name without the Meaning has indeed disbelieved," meaning: he warned against the worship of the Name without the Meaning, and whoever worships it has disbelieved. Then he said: "And whoever worshiped the Name and the Meaning has indeed associated partners," so this is clear between them that it is the essence of polytheism when he worshiped two. "And whoever worshiped the Name by the reality of the Meaning has indeed unified."
He meant that whoever worshiped the Name as being a Name for the Meaning by which He is called, has indeed unified; just as it is said of ice that it is water, but it is not said of water that it is ice, because it is other than ice, while ice is not other than water because from water it was formed and originated, and it is not for anyone to separate between ice and water because its very self is water. Thus, it is separated from it by observation, yet connected to it in the same reality. This is a clear explanation for whoever ponders it, and a sufficient statement for whoever contemplates it, guiding to the aspect of indication in establishing the unity of the One and clarifying the status of the One.
