Exalt your thought above the locus of annihilation
For thought is nothing but a ladder to permanent subsistence (al-baqa').
Wherever you have thought, there you are—so comprehend That which the virtuous elite have contemplated.
Thought is the ladder of the heart. If it ascends with it toward the outward dimension, it breaks off because the limit of physical bodies is transience (al-faniyah); but if it ascends with it toward the inward dimension, it has no limit. Rather, it continuously perceives spiritual meanings, leading it back to every primary principle that was obscured by the secondary.
Within your pair, the spirits and the worlds [unfold]—
Do you not witness that while you are asleep?
For within you, everything present resides in the unseen, And you are the totality: a cosmos and a scholar.
When the entirety of actions became its worshiper, Dependent upon you for every action you perform,
You remained as such—you are a worshiped deity for your essence, if
You are Allah, though you are presently ignorant of it.
