Manifestation through the attribute of Majesty occurs continuously because it is the station of stabilization (al-tamkin), while manifestation through the attribute of Beauty occurs discontinuously because it is the station of shifting states (al-talwin).

And know that contemplation (al-mushahadah) can occur alongside manifestation and can occur without manifestation; and manifestation can occur alongside contemplation and can occur without contemplation. Yet both of them do not exist except alongside disclosure (al-mukashafah), whereas disclosure can be found without them.

Al-Shibli—may Allah be pleased with him—said:

Leave the lights, for they are a veil for the eye,

But rather [seek] He who enriches, and thus annihilates. And the pinnacle of the station of the servants of imagination Is to attain the specialized states of realized men.

Muhyiddin, In Eternity (fi al-azal): And that is because they are among the colors of the lights of man; they appear at certain times and vanish at other times.
