and the spirit may have a manifestation. Every wayfarer (salik) must distinguish between the manifestation of the spirit and the divine manifestation. The difference between them is that the manifestation of the spirit remains marked by the brand of temporality (wasmat al-huduth) and possesses no power of absolute annihilation (al-ifna'); even if at the time of appearance the human attributes vanish, the Lordly manifestation (al-tajalli al-rabbani) is contrary to it, because within it, the annihilation of annihilation (fana' al-fana') appears, and the soul dies entirely, according to what has been said, and its tranquility (tuma'ninatuha) is attained. The spiritual manifestation (al-tajalli al-ruhani) may result from the dominance of the lights of remembrance (al-dhikr) and the lights of obedience. Thus, when the lights of the ocean of spirituality surge, they surge upon the chain of the heart.
The Lordly manifestation (al-tajalli al-rabbani) is of two types: Essential (dhati) and Attributative (sifati). The Essential relates to Divinity (Ilahiyyah) and Lordship (Rububiyyah). The Attributative is also of two types: Beautiful (jamali) and Majestic (jalali).
