Up to his saying: The human spirit manifests between the heaven and the earth upon that form in the best of human forms, possessing a radiance and a light that shines upon the universes. Then the Divine Spirit manifests upon it. And verily, the spirits within their world occupy determined degrees, aligned ranks, and varying readinesses, prepared in eternity by the sheer grace of the Primary Care and the most sacred effusion. Thus, the people of the first rank are the foremost, the solitary ones (al-mufradun), the drawn-near, the beloved, who are designated with the favor of His care and His preceding generosity; those who recognize each other by His light and love one another in Him. The remaining ones vary in degrees, and according to their closeness and distance, they recognize each other or deny each other: "So those of them that recognized each other came together, and those of them that denied each other differed," down to the last of the ranks. For them are fixed centers and firmly rooted origins in the upper world, and upon attachment to bodies, the degrees of their perfections and the ultimate end of their bliss vary according to the primary readiness allocated to each of them from their principles in eternity.
