the spirit enfolds into following the intellectual inspiration and conceptualizes itself with whatever conceptualization [the faculty] subdues it with. Then, if it binds it to resembling the angels, it flies with the wings of longing to the Highest Assembly, joyful and glad due to the compliance of its desire.
As for the angelic spirits and the sublime intellects, they do not conceptualize except the most beautiful forms; they fill what is between the heaven and the earth, and stand beneath the Throne of the All-Merciful waiting for His most sacred effusion—their nourishment is witnessing, and their quenching is intimate invocation. He, His glory is might, said [in the holy tradition]: "I spend the night with my Lord, and He feeds me and provides me with drink." Hence, the souls of the messengers and the prophets are purer, more radiant, and more merciful; space cannot contain them, so when they blow toward their pinnacle, the universes are stirred by them, and the heavens light up from the intensity of their brilliance and the weight of the manifestations within them.
