The ultimate root of all things is the Existence of the Truth (Al-Haqq), the Exalted; for if this Divine Source were not present, and if this prime matter (al-maddah al-hayulaniyyah) were not intelligible, this originated, created branch—which came into being after it was not—could never have crystallized.

For the soul are two faces, it does not cease being receptive From what opposes it, high and descending.

A face to the Truth, it does not cease, then for it

A face to the creation, it does not cease from dependency. Like a bee, its two extremities are in opposition

In it of the venom is what is in it of the honey

And the intellect is its witness, the first, so be forever Opposing, receptive, in speech and action.

And for him also:

The whole was originated here for our sake

And there, and the world is the key

Veils pointing to the subtle realities, so our spirits hid

And the corporeal forms appeared

Forms, so in our corporeal forms their corporeal forms are an analogy

And in our spirits are the spirits.
