such as al-Zubayr b. al-'Awwam; 'Abdullah b. 'Amr b. al-'As who was with the rebellious faction—the companions of Siffin; 'Abdullah b. Mas'ud among the Murji'ites; Abu Sa'id al-Khudri among the People of the Sunnah; and Jabir b. 'Abdullah al-Ansari among the Shi'ah."

And from the Book of the Jewel, concerning those praised esoterically but blamed exoterically: "Talib among the polytheists; 'Aqil among the dissenters; al-Fadl b. 'Abbas and 'Abdullah b. Ja'far among the residents; Muhammad b. al-Hanafiyyah among the missing; 'Abd al-Rahman b. Muljam among the tested ones; and Abu Nuwas, Hasan b. Hani, from among the tested ones."

And among those who endured the burden of what he bore was 'Abd al-Rahman b. Muljam, Zayd b. 'Ali, and 'Ali b. Zaynab, the daughter of Muhammad, among the mujahidin.
