Decree, Destiny, Good, and Evil:

[260] And Abu Muhammad al-Hasan b. Shu'bah said in the Book of the Realities of the Secrets of Religion (Kitab Haqa'iq Asrar al-Din): Abu Ja'far Muhammad b. al-Hasan al-Mu'asibi mentioned that 'Ali b. Musa al-Rida, His glory is might, was asked concerning decree (al-qada') and destiny (al-qadar). He replied: It was written in a book belonging to the Commander of the Faithful, His glory is might:

"In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Knowledge has preceded, decree has passed, and destiny has been finalized through the realization of the Book and the confirmation of the Messengers; with felicitation from Allah for him who believes and fears [Him], and with misery from Allah for him who disbelieves and disobeys. Allah says: 'O son of Adam! By My Will, you were the one who willed for yourself what you willed; by the bounty of My favor, you found strength to commit acts of disobedience against Me; and by My strength and My well-being, you performed My obligations unto Me. Therefore, I am more entitled to your good deeds than you are, and you are more entitled to your bad deeds than Me.
