The Obstacles of the Believer Upon the Path:

And the Prince Hasan b. Makrun said in his treatise Tazkiyat al-Nafs: It has been mentioned in the Book of the Path regarding the pathways of the believers after they strip off the shirts of deferment and join the rank of those who catch up.

[234] Because of the statement of the Knower, His glory is might: "The traveler, upon reaching the rank of those who catch up, witnesses nothing except the light of the tested ones. He imparts to him a secret from the knowledge of the Truth that had never passed by his hearing during his human state; if he stands firm upon it and acts according to it, he is raised to the rank of the listener. Then the sincere one manifests to him and imparts to him a secret he had not heard while in the rank of those who catch up; if he stands firm upon it and acts according to it, he is elevated to the rank of the wanderer. Thereafter, he does not cease ascending rank after rank and hearing secret after secret, until he terminates at the rank of the near one—which is the utmost of the lofty ranks that the gnostics traverse, and it is the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary, near which is the Garden of Refuge.
