and ignorance of its secrets only prevents its manifestation, not because it is non-existent. For the sun, its light is comprehensive and perfect, and its effect does not appear except through clear bodies; thus the plant, its life is by it even if it has no consciousness of that. And Allah has no secret except that it is upon the tongues of His creation, and He has no fortress more protective than their ignorance of Him. And whoever does not extinguish his ego (ananiyyah) entirely does not find existence entirely: Who is "I" so that I may be named "I"? There is no "I", O Truth, except You; who is "I"? There is nothing in existence except You, and what is apart is but dross in an empty air that is negated at that point. And the people of witnessing and beholding say: We see no one in existence except the Existent with its meanings, and if it must be so, then they are like dross in the air; you, were it not for the effusion of existence, would be dross in an empty air scattered within the void. And if you realize that, then know that it is not permissible for the speaker to say "I" (Ana), referring to his own existence, even if he is from the people of the spiritual state (ahl al-hal),
