And perhaps they expressed by the first "soul" in his saying: "my soul stripped itself," the True Existence, and by the second "soul," the soul of the speaker himself, and by its stripping, the indication of transcendence (al-Tanzihi). And from this meaning is the saying of al-Muntajab, may Allah sanctify his soul.
For the universe is a body and it is a spirit within it, and the individual souls are the effects of the Universal Soul which is the Gate of existence, and upon Allah is the delivery of the intended purpose. For the universe is in the Creator, not by way of exiting or entering, and the Creator is in the universe, not by way of unification (al-Ittihad) or indwelling (al-Hulul); and whoever is realized in the Truth becomes absent through Him from the creation, and stands as a gatherer of all totalities.
And this is the station of union and the intermediate state (al-Barzakhiyyah) which they contrast with separation (al-Farq). So when the Truth is his hearing and his sight—as in the Hadith Qudsi—he does not see in existence except the Bestower of benevolence and generosity upon the people of absence within witnessing, because absence according to them is the very essence of presence and manifestation, since it expresses the extreme radiance of the Light.
