And the existents are the rays of the brightness of existence, and in reality they have no existence by their essence except through His existence, but they are attributed, and existence is attributed to them, metaphorically. So when reality manifests, the shadows set, and this distinction between the light of the sun and the full moon at night and his being with the being of his beloved indeed appears to the intellect, and there is no way for the sense to perceive it. And the divine realities are four, and they are: life, knowledge, will, and power.
For the souls aim for heaven—meaning they intend it through His knowledge, the Exalted—because it is their original place, and every moving thing seeks to join its cause. Thus, the lofty world, its life is by the real water, and the lower world, its life is by water and herbage. And the Lordly subtlety has a connection to this corporeal, pine-shaped heart placed in the left side of the chest, and that subtlety is the human reality, and the sage names it the rational soul.
And the spirit is its inward, and the animal soul is its vehicle, and it is the perceiving, knowing part of man, and upon it falls the address and the rebuke.
