And Abu Nasr al-Farabi said: Verily the holy spirit is not occupied by a direction of below from a direction of above, and the outward sense does not engross its inward sense, and its effect may extend from its body to the bodies of the universe and what is in it, and it accepts the intellective notions from the spirit and the angels without instruction from humans, for the angels are real essences, and they have essences according to comparison, so as for their real essences they are amritic from the world of command, and the holy human spirit resembles them from the human power, so when it addresses it, the inward and outward sense attracts to above, so there is represented to it from the angel an image according to what it can bear, so it sees an angel upon other than his image, and it hears his speech after what it is a revelation, and the revelation is a tablet from the intent of the angel to the human spirit without an intermediary, and that is the real speech, for speech is indeed intended by it what the inward of the addresser contains in the inward of the addresser so that he perceives its likeness, so he takes between the inward a messenger from the outward, so he speaks with the voice or writes or gestures, and when the addressed has no veil between him and the angel,
