At that moment, they would increase in intense yearning and ecstasy for as long as He remained manifest to them—and He is the ultimate goal and culmination, above which there is no higher substance.'

And Muhammad b. Shu'bah al-Harrani said in his book al-Asayfir—Allah sanctified his soul: 'The Master has known that souls can abstract themselves [tatajarrad] from their physical bodies, turn away from their bodily whims and pleasures, and connect with the gardens of Allah to witness His holy realm and unite with His intimate world while they are still deeply immersed within their physical bodies. Thus, they learn the path of ascension to the stations of light, the blending with spiritual illumination, and the temporary separation from the body at one time and returning to it at another, even while still bound to its physical ties. Through this, absolute abstraction [al-tajrid] becomes a permanent faculty [malakah] within them, enabling their seamless transition to the loftiest lights and their mixing with the people of illumination and separating from the people of darkness. Thus, when the soul permanently departs its physical body, it unites with the celestial abodes with which it had established a connection in the world of light.
