It restrains the essential elemental humors [al-taba'i' al-dhatiyyah] yet remains susceptible to the transient, perishable humors. It builds up what originates from it with equity, dissolving them without being completely enveloped or concealed by them.

Its likeness within collective existence is like that of the seed-kernel within trees: it is connected via esoteric recognition and affirmation [muttasilah bi-al-ma'rifah wa-al-iqrar], yet separated by personal ethical self-fashioning and speculative thoughts [munfasilah bi-al-takhaluq wa-al-afkar]. Witness its description with earnestness in proportion to its sincerity. Strike the flint of the ultimate description against the boundaries of final knowledge to break through the veils of the corporeal senses. For the blissful individual is he who brings the soul to completion under the rank of sufficient divine care, keeping its loyalty. Through such sufficiency, spiritual comprehension becomes self-sustaining; he awakens from the slumber of his neglect, reclaims the lost opportunities of his past for his present day, and places the command of his intellect upon his breast where it belongs.
