His saying 'li-mashriqi'—perhaps its correct reading is 'bi-mashriqi'—means by the shining forth of the sun of Love upon the manifest horizon from the right bank of the sacred valley, after its setting within the muddy spring [al-'ayn al-hami'ah] according to the sight of the physical eye, without any alteration taking place within its own essence. [Through this structural witnessing], transmigration as mentioned by the divine sages [al-hukama' al-rabbaniyyun] became proven true to me; which is the transition of the rational soul from the body of a human being into another identical to it without any alteration occurring within its own essence."
And he said in another commentary on the Diwan: "The Divine Column [al-'amud al-ilahi] is upright, and the souls are in the position of rays emanating from it." Then he recited the saying of the Most High: {They ask you concerning the spirit. Say: The spirit is from the command of my Lord} 1 . And he has a similar statement within the commentary on the Diwan: "Creation is but the rays of the Creator’s existence."
