Our spirits existed long before Iblis was brought into being, By virtue of the Essence of the Cosmoses, through which the Truth erected light.

While Iblis’s configuration was brought about through opposition,

And the element of the fire of doubt is tightly bound to disbelief.

And our physical bodies were assembled long after Iblis, From clay—a sticky and pure sounding clay.

And the Sheikh Ahmad ibn Jabalah al-Ghassani said in his "Questions" [Masa'il]: "So I say: Verily, the souls—absolutely—descended by Divine Providence and Lordly Wisdom; they departed from the brilliant Light and became attached to these physical bodies composed of the four elements so that He might honor them with the perfection of recognizing their Creator, endow them with intellect through its reason, purify them, and so that they may witness the Manifestation within the human state just as they witnessed it within the world of Light."
