A SECTION ON THE RECOGNITION OF THE SOUL AND THE CREATION OF THE COSMOS AND SPIRITS

[127] Hermes—his glory is mighty—beheld one day, at the moment of the formation of the cosmos and the worlds, and the dissemination of life into every region, that the voice of the aquatic light of the entire universe called out to him, disclosing to him the divine secret by saying: "Indeed, the light you beheld is the Divine Spirit which contains everything potentially and encompasses the archetypes of all entities. Reality lies in recognizing the Divine Substance [al-jawhar al-lahuti] and the extraordinary Power which is the soul of the cosmos, the foundation of movements, and the Cause of Causes, from whose movement arose the existence of intellectual and sensible beings. Worship is the acknowledgment of the existence of this eternal Power and Magnificent Creator, acting in accordance with His commands and prohibitions, believing in Him and His emissaries, and purifying obedience to Him with sincere intention. Indeed, Allah—Glory be to Him—is Unique [Ahad] from all perspectives, perfect in His Essence, free from all modes of deficiency, solitary in His attributes of perfection, having no partner,
