THE FIRST CHAPTER
"REINCARNATION AMONG THE SUMERIANS"
It was stated in the book History Begins at Sumer / authored by Samuel Noah Kramer, translated by Taha Baqir / Cairo: The Sumerian sages believed in the return of the soul to receive the result of its sins in a previous life, because all the misfortunes of man and all the afflictions that befall him are but a just recompense for the sins and disobediences he committed.
If he is able to repent and perform righteousness in his new life, his repentance will be accepted, his sins will be erased from him, and his soul will return to the Paradise of Eternity with its everlasting bliss under the care of Allah. Indeed, Enlil—who is the Adam of the Torah—and Ninlil, who is Eve, were no sooner tempted in Paradise than they were expelled from the mercy of the Lord and cast down from Paradise to the lower world—this world—with his wife Ninlil (Eve), to live a life of weariness, toil, and misery. He reincarnated three times, with the possibility of atonement for the sin open before him each time, so that his soul might return to the world of the righteous. This is what was related regarding the Sumerians.
