The Prophet of Islam (His Might is Exalted) expressed a most eloquent expression regarding this similarity between the two dualities:

The duality of wakefulness and sleep.

And the duality of life and death.

Where he said in one of his sermons: "By Allah, you shall surely die just as you sleep, and you shall surely be resurrected just as you wake up, and you shall surely be recompensed for good with goodness and for evil with evil, and you shall surely be held accountable for what you do not know; and it is either Paradise forever or Fire forever."

As it appeared in the Law of Karma, for the law is one and applies to all ranks of existence, and everything is interconnected and continuous. Karma is essentially the continuity of action; thus, man is born upon what he was in a previous life, and dies upon what he lived upon, and is resurrected upon what he died upon. Death and life are two links in a long chain, and existence is rotating millstones and wheels upon which we travel.

The law of alternating cyclic manifestation applies to all ranks of existence in the form of successive expansion and contraction—inhalation and exhalation, dilation and constriction, activity and rest, wakefulness and sleep, night and day, life and death, and then it prepares for a new birth.
