And among the philosophers is Abu al-Ala al-Ma'arri, as he said:

O eater of the apple, do not distance yourself

And let not your bereaved one remain on the day of destruction

You were, in your time, an apple

And your apple was this, your eater

And a letter of satire you were in what has passed

And long has your former shaper given you form

And Al-Ma'arri said:

For I have found the soul manifesting regret

Over what it has earned when the transfer attends it

And if our souls have become rusted within our bodies

Then it is likely that one day polishing shall return to them
