" As for the "Likeness" manifestations (al-Muthliyya): The most exalted, radiant Sheikh, the Master Abu Abd Allah al-Husayn ibn Hamdan al-Khasibi (may Allah grant him His pleasure), stated and clarified this in his treatise. We shall further clarify it so that those of the believers who hear it may know it.
It is his saying: "Then the Meaning (al-Ma'na)—Glorified be His Might—willed to manifest the Absence (al-Ghayba), and He is the 'Anza' al-Batin' [the Forehead-receding, the Internalized]; so He removed al-Hasan and appeared in the likeness of his form." His saying: "He removed al-Hasan and appeared in the likeness of his form" means: He removed the temple (Haykal) of al-Hasan, which is a light created from the Light of the Light of the Name 1 . For the Name created him for Himself, and we shall investigate this thoroughly in the second chapter, which includes the recognition of the outer and inner [aspects] of the Name, if Allah the Exalted wills. The reality regarding the saying of our Sheikh al-Khasibi (peace be upon him): "So He removed al-Hasan and appeared in the likeness of his form" is that when the Meaning wills to manifest with the perfection of the Essence and its supreme luminosity: nothing remains firm before the greatness of the Essence except that which is [part] of it, without division or fragmentation, and that is the Spirit of the Name, which is its inner reality.
