Ammar said: I said: 'O my Master, do You see what they are in, what they are plotting, and what Mu'awiya has revealed to 'Amr? Why then do You delay [their end]?' He replied: 'O Ammar, so that He may justify the truth and abolish falsehood.' I said: 'The command is Yours, O my Master.' Then He said: 'Appear to them, O Ammar.'
So I appeared to them. Mu'awiya looked at me first while I was upon a horse and said: 'Woe to you, O 'Amr! You have been outwitted! Did I not say to you that it is as if Ali has a watching eye among us? Here is Ammar!' He threw himself from his throne and hid behind it to conceal himself. I said: 'Woe to you, O Mu'awiya! Where will you hide yourself? By Allah, if my Master permitted me [to deal with] you both, neither earth nor heaven would hide you from me.' 'Amr fell upon his face. Then my Master said: 'That is enough, O Ammar.'
I turned my face toward my Master, and suddenly He was standing upon the spot where He had been, alone, with no one by Him, and I was standing facing Him. He said to me: 'O Ammar, have you become certain in your affair?' I said: 'That is by Your granting me success.' I continued on His journey. This was among the evidences He manifested while traveling to Siffin. (Thus ends the third report of the Siffin-related accounts).
