He said: 'It is so, O Ammar.' Then he asked: 'Do you recognize these people?' I said: 'Only if You inform Your servant.' He said: 'These are the Companions of the River whom Allah tested in the story of Saul (Talut); those of whom He said: When he had crossed it, he and those who believed with him, they said: "There is no power for us today against Goliath (Jalut) and his soldiers." And these are the companions of Joshua (Yusha) bin Nun on the day he returned the sun; and these are the Disciples (al-Hawariyyun), the companions of Jesus (Isa) bin Maryam—the Disciples of whom he said: "Who are my supporters for Allah?" The disciples said, "We are supporters of Allah." And these are those of whom Allah said: They fight in the way of Allah in a row as if they were a solid structure. And these are the companions of Muhammad, the three hundred and thirteen persons on the day of Badr, and on the day of your vision 1 ; they are [the people] of the Day of Karbala, and they are the companions of al-Husayn." I said: "O my Master, and are they with us against Mu'awiya?" He replied: "They have been engaging Mu'awiya since I departed from Kufa." I said: "They are engaging him? Then how did they leave him and come [here]?" He said: "Indeed, they are where they are; they have not moved from their positions." I said: "But I see them [here] weary and exhausted." He said: "O Ammar, is the place where Mu'awiya is in Syria far for them?" I said: "No, my Master."
1In another manuscript: "...from those who will be in Karbala."
