[18] It was narrated from him—mighty is his might—that he stood over the grave of Sa'id bin Mas'ada, who had been dead for nine years, and he brought him back to life. Sa'id bin Mas'ada then pointed toward him, [testifying] that he is Allah who had revived him, while the people stood by, listening and watching.

Those present among the hypocrites said to him: "We adjure you by Allah, O Commander of the Faithful, return the man to his grave! For if the people see him after you have revived him, they will apostatize from the religion; they will say of you what the Christians said of the Messiah, and they will take you as a Lord and a God." He said to [Sa'id]: "Return to where you were." So he returned, and the grave closed over him. Then the Commander of the Faithful—mighty is his might—said to them: "If I willed, I could give you scrolls containing the mention of what you have sent forth and what you have left behind, the mention of what was and what will be of you, and your traces and deeds until the end of your times." The report is lengthy; we have summarized the relevant portion of it.
