He replied: "I have encountered from the past nations more than what I have encountered from this nation." The man then said to him: "So from where did you come, O Commander of the Faithful?" He said: "I came from the Most High; I am the destroyer of your first ancestors, and I am the Knower of what is beneath the soil." The man said to him: "Indeed, for every great man among the greats of the earth, there is a station, an evidence, and a miracle for which he is mentioned and by which he is known—such as the Arch of Khosrow (Iwan Kisra), or like al-Khawarnaq 1 and al-Sadir; so what is your matter, O Commander of the Faithful?" The Commander of the Faithful—mighty is his might—then recited: {The creation of the heavens and earth is greater than the creation of mankind, but most of the people do not know} 2 .
This report is supported by the saying of the Mighty and Majestic: {And He it is who is God in the heaven and in the earth [Imam] God; and He is the Wise, the Knowing. And blessed is He to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them and with whom is knowledge of the Hour and to whom you will be returned} 3 .
