He said to me: 'O Maytham, you eat and We eat, you drink and We drink, you marry and We marry, you relieve yourself and We relieve ourselves, you die and We die; so what is the difference between us?' I said: 'O my Master, You are You, there is no god but You!' He said: 'Yes, I am I,' then he recited: {Indeed, I am Allah. There is no deity except Me, so worship Me and establish prayer for My remembrance} 1 . Maytham said: 'When I had eaten, I went out with Safina. When I was outside the house, I said to Safina: "O Safina, did you see from my Master what I saw?" Safina replied: "I saw him only eating." So I kept silent and went about my business.'" The evidence for that is the saying of the Almighty: {And conceal your speech or proclaim it; indeed, He is Knowing of that within the breasts} 2 .

[11] It was narrated from some of the scholars, tracing it back to our Master, the Commander of the Faithful—mighty is his might—that he was upon the pulpit (Minbar) of Kufa saying: "I am the one who originated the heaven, I am the one who raised the firmament, measured the air, and I am the Companion of the Lote Tree of the Furthest Boundary (Sidrat al-Muntaha). Through me stops the one who has exaggerated, and for me seeks the one who has reached the end."

A man stood up to him and said: "What have you encountered, O Commander of the Faithful, from this nation?"
