So Salman, al-Miqdad, and Abu Dharr turned back from the door and sat for a while waiting for the Commander of the Faithful, Ali. The evidence for that is the saying of the Almighty: {Do they await but that Allah should come to them in shadows of clouds and the angels [with Him] and the matter is judged? And to Allah [all] matters are returned} 1 . While they were sitting, they saw the angels descending in throngs and processions; and suddenly they saw the Commander of the Faithful—mighty is his might—upon the clouds, and in his hand was his sword, Dhu al-Faqar, dripping with blood. They approached the door as he had descended from the clouds, and they sought permission.
He permitted them, so they entered and prostrated for a long time, then stood. Salman said to him: "O my Master, why is Dhu al-Faqar dripping with blood?" The Commander of the Faithful—mighty is his might—said to him: "Groups of angels denied and feigned ignorance and differed concerning me, so I purified them with this sword of mine in the Highest Assembly (al-Mala' al-A'la) and descended." Then Salman said to al-Miqdad: {Say, "O Allah, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, You will judge between your servants concerning that over which they used to differ"} 2 .
