And His saying, Exalted is He, in Surah Al-A'raf: {Who is more unjust than one who invents a lie about Allah or denies His signs? Those will attain their portion of the decree until, when Our messengers come to them to take them in death, they will say, "Where are those you used to invoke besides Allah?" They will say, "They have departed from us," and will bear witness against themselves that they were disbelievers. [Allah] will say, "Enter among nations which had passed on before you of jinn and mankind into the Fire." Every time a nation enters, it curses its sister [nation]} 1 .

Those who invoke besides Allah—may Allah curse them—are those whom we mentioned of the Pharaohs and the tyrants; their satans and their followers bear witness against them on the Day of Resurrection that they were the ones who led them astray. Just as they recognized those who led them astray, likewise their address to the Worshipped Lord, the One, the Existing, was based on prior recognition, and likewise they recognized the messengers. Thus, their speech and their confession of their sins and their disbelief were with humiliation and submission, seeking repentance and a return to humanity, because they recur in types of punishment.
