Likewise, there is a poem by the virtuous Vizier Haydar ibn al-Mihwar al-Fariqi, nicknamed Safi al-Din, who called himself among the believers Abd al-Mu’min al-Sufi—may Allah be pleased with him. He was of my era, and nothing of his poetry reached me except for one fragment consisting of twelve verses:
'Abel and Seth I look to for my aid
In times of hardship; as well as Joseph and Joshua.'
'The "Meaning of Meanings" is Asaph in his kingdom,
And at the Throne is Simon [Peter], who brings both harm and benefit.'
'I call upon Him by the Ancient Eternity in supplication,
And I acknowledge the High "Meaning" and I submit.'
'O Owner of the Kingdom, Hearer of prayer,
Distress has touched me, and You are the refuge.'
'O Goal of all goals, have mercy on an eye
That melts and weeps from the abundance of its "Return" (Raj'a).'
'I have burdened my soul with many sins,
But it hopes for the generosity of Your forgiveness.'
