[6] Resembling that is what was narrated by al-Bara' bin 'Azib, who said: "I had a need to present to my Master, the Commander of the Faithful—mighty is his might—so I came to his chamber and intended to knock on the door. Then the Commander of the Faithful—mighty is his might—called out to me: 'O son of 'Azib, enter the house.' I entered, and there he was in the middle of the house, and before him were many scrolls (Suhuf) he was looking into. When I stood there, I said to myself: 'If only the Imam would command me to look into these scrolls, I would look.' He raised his head toward me and said: 'O son of 'Azib, look.' So I looked, and I reached my hand toward the scrolls, and they opened; behold, within them were my character, my physical form, my lifespan, my sustenance, and my deeds from the day I was born until that very moment. My body shuddered, and my head swelled [with awe]; I threw them from my hand and said to myself: 'If only the Imam would command me to look into these scrolls a second time, I would look.' He said to me: 'O son of 'Azib, look.' So I reached my hand and turned the scrolls, and I took a second scroll, and behold, within it was the same. My mind wandered in shock, and I threw it to the ground. I waited for an hour and said in my secret: 'If only the Imam would command me to look into these scrolls a third time, I would look.' He looked at me and said: 'O son of 'Azib, look.' So I took the third scroll, and behold, within it was the same.
