The scribe, the servant Hasan ibn Mahmud, has composed verses intended to affirm what the aforementioned Vizier [Ibn 'Abbad] wrote, out of a longing and desire for what he said regarding our Master, the Prince of Bees, Ali ibn Abi Talib—may His power be exalted. This is the poetry:
'A willful pretender said to me one day,
In his ignorance: "Tell me, whom is it that you worship?"
I replied: "He who was a firm and holding star [Muhammad],
Supported by his [Ali's] upper arm and his hand.
And [He] who placed his feet between the Prophet’s shoulders,
Reaching a place that He [Ali] had exalted and built.
He smashed the idols and cast down their [the pagans'] Hubal,
Then vanished the House [the Kaaba] from them and leveled it.
Then He stepped away from it, having restored it
To its original state—O person of understanding, Him we worship!
Truly, and I worship none besides Him; indeed, I am
Free from a sleeping people who deny Him.
In the excellence of my firm devotion to Him, He shall protect me
From the heat of a vaulted and kindled Fire.
