Similar to him is the illustrious, brilliant, and perfected scholar Abu al-Hasan, known as al-Jawhari, the aim of his time and unique in his era. He has poems on Monotheism whose explanation would be lengthy. Among his sayings—may Allah be pleased with him—is:

In my wakefulness, I beheld my Deity;

And indeed, this is the ultimate limit [of Gnosis].

He has never been absent from His creation—Exalted is He;

By His Essence, His 'What-ness' (Māhiya) cannot be encompassed.

His Name [Muhammad] has guided us to Him,

Saying: 'No prestige is like my prestige.'

And His Gate [Salman] is perpetually [leading] to Him;

And what Gate could possibly rival him?

If you obey him, you are secure

From the ignorance of people and the oversight of the heedless.

How many have affirmed His Oneness, yet denied Him

Out of deficiency of intellect and confusion?

The 'Samaritan' [the archetypal misleader] led them astray long ago

By building a Great [Idol] and through distracted vanity.

Like a darkness that turned black and persisted

Without vanishing, and they remain as they are.
