"And he [Mu'izz al-Dawla] authored epistles, notebooks (Kinashat), and esoteric prayers according to the school of Shi'ism and the Imamate. He also worked in the science of astronomy and created the famous astronomical table (Zij) attributed to him. He ruled the Egyptian lands and foretold how long his descendants would rule after him, decreeing for them a reign of 185 years. He predicted that after this, al-Hakim [bi-Amr Allah] would appear, who was also from his progeny, and he brought forth matters whose explanation and enumeration would be lengthy.

As for the Emir 'Ismat al-Dawla, his son, he was as we mentioned regarding asceticism, worship, knowledge, and religiosity. He composed poems and fragments on Monotheism.

His Sheikh in the school of Monotheism was Abu al-Fath Muhammad ibn al-Hasan ibn Muqatil al-Baghdadi, who also had fragments and esoteric writings and was a virtuous, brilliant jurist and Gnostic—may Allah be pleased with them.
