So Miqdad, and Jundub [Abu al-Dharr] after him,

And Ibn Rawaha—and what a fine man he is!

And Uthman [ibn Maz'un], along with Qanbar;

Thus the count for us is finished and complete.

[The Gates:] You have made known to us the value of the "Ascendants" (al-Matali');

So woe to him who remains ignorant of their worth.

Through Salsal [Salman], he poured forth the sciences among us,

And the judgment of Safina among us was just.

Rashid [al-Hajari] came with the text of the Book,

Speaking the truth, and the dispute became widespread.

And Kankar [Abu Khalid al-Kabuli] manifested his proof,

And was not a plagiarist in what he brought forth.

Then Yahya [ibn Mu'ammar] and Jabir [al-Ju'fi] after him;

Each of them narrated what had been transmitted.

The son of Abi Zaynab al-Kahili [Abu al-Khattab] called out

A proclamation, and in it, there was no error.

And al-Mufaddal [ibn Umar] rose after him;

How excellent the speech, and how excellent the station!
