'I am not one to be jealous over a female neighbor,

If I do not first become jealous over Knowledge.'

When this jealousy took hold of him, he composed this [following] poem in opposition to the 'Qubliyya' poem [of al-Awni], which represents the school of the People of Delegation (Tafwid). He wrote it using the same meter, but it is of Pure Monotheism (Khalis al-Tawhid). This is its opening:"

Have you not seen the pitch-black dusk,

How the illuminating sunrise bursts forth from it?

O you who censures me for [following] the upright path,

Be calm, that you may be guided to His hidden Secret.

For the Secret of Allah is internal (Batinan);

If the Secret of the Deity were not hidden,

There would be none among us fearful or secure.

This is advice from a sincere counselor, not a traitor:

On the Day of Manifestation, the buried secrets shall appear, And then every rebellious oppressor shall feel regret.
