So, if an objector objects and says: 'Since the Knower (may His might be exalted) said that from Delegation one ascends to Monotheism, then it is possible and permissible that al-Awni was merely veiled from Monotheism while still being among the believers, and that he would eventually ascend to it as our Master the Knower stated.'

For a man may be veiled from Gnosis (al-Ma'rifa) for one shirt [incarnation], two, or three, up to the limit of eighty shirts, before returning to the affirmation of Monotheism for the High, the Compelling. As long as he is veiled from Gnosis, he deserves to enter the wombs. There, he eats of the best of what his carrier [mother] eats and drinks of the most delicious of what she drinks; space is made for him in the darkness of the entrails such that he sees no darkness therein. Despite all this, he is still counted among the believers and numbered in the group of the monotheists, because Gnosis and affirmation were established for him in pre-eternity.

Once he has completed what he deserved in the 'shirts of short-falling and delegation' and returns to the affirmation of Monotheism, he is honored and exalted above entering the wombs and no longer travels in the darknesses. Instead, when he is transferred [at death], he is transferred into a newborn who has been born at that very moment and hour."
