Intoxication (Sukr) is of two types: praiseworthy intoxication and blameworthy intoxication.
Praiseworthy Intoxication: Refers to the believer whom Allah has granted knowledge and Gnosis. He is 'intoxicated,' meaning he is satisfied and beyond needing any sciences outside of Tawhid, just like an intoxicated person who cannot drink anymore and turns toward nothing else.
Blameworthy Intoxication: Refers to the man whose form is human but whose essence is satanic, filled with the 'Knowledge of Obstruction' (Ilm al-Sadd) that has taken hold of him. He does not turn toward anything else, having chosen delusion over guidance and being satisfied with Sijjin (the abyss) over Illiyin (the highest heavens). Thus, in his blindness and delusion, he cries out with that which does not benefit him, submerged in the filth of this lowly world, wandering astray within these clay temples (human bodies).
Regarding his words: 'You cast me into the depths of the sea of longing, into an abyss that burns my very breath,' this refers to what we mentioned regarding the first verse and its meaning—that is: 'You have placed me within these fleshy human structures as I have deserved, not that You have wronged me.'
