Then the Lord—Glorified be His Might—called out: "O people of 'Ad! O people of Thamud! O people of Pharaoh!" By Allah, the Lord had not even finished His words when there appeared from the Trunk the people of 'Ad, the people of Thamud, the people of Pharaoh, the people of Haman, the people of Qarun, the people of Shaddad ibn 'Ad, Nimrod ibn Canaan, and all the Opponents and Rivals (al-Adad wal-Andad). They appeared in their own persons and forms as they were in their own times, but shackled, chained, bound, and fettered. They were wailing, screaming, weeping, and crying out in woe, lamentation, long-lasting sorrow, and ruin.
They cried: "Mercy! Mercy! O God of Adam and his progeny, O God of the heavens and the earths! Pardon us, have mercy on us, and take us out of this [torment]. If we ever return [to sin], then we would indeed be wrongdoers!"
He replied to them: {He will say, "Remain despised therein and do not speak to Me. Indeed, there was a party of My servants who said, 'Our Lord, we have believed, so forgive us and have mercy upon us, and You are the best of the merciful'"} 1 . By Allah, He had not finished His speech when they were dragged away on their faces, seized by maces of fire and iron.
