While in that state, I came upon a valley; I emerged from it and descended into a vast, fragrant land. Suddenly, I beheld buildings shimmering and lights bursting forth! Lamps were glowing, birds were whistling and chirping, trees were rustling, and waters were trickling.
I began to travel toward it, greeted by scents like pungent musk, perfume, and ambergris that took hold of the depths of my heart. I continued until I arrived at a structure of red gold, encrusted with pearls and rubies as large as ostrich eggs—and here it is now before you!"
At that moment, everyone in the mosque was overcome by a fainting spell even greater than the first, due to the overwhelming scents of musk, amber, and various perfumes. It filled our nostrils, throats, and chests. We beheld jewels like ostrich eggs suspended by golden chains from the balconies of that city and its palaces. There were the orchards, the gardens, the lush pavilions, the great halls (iwans), and all manner of Persian and Arabian flora. They all illuminated crystal lanterns that glowed brightly—they were too many to count! I looked at everything in front of me and surrounding me, seeing it clearly with my own eyes. By the Lord of Heaven, it is exactly as I saw it then! These are the very palaces I beheld, the private chambers, the squares, and the buildings—every brick made of gold and a brick of silver, crowned and encrusted with pearls, rubies, and emeralds. The furnishings were of various types of brocade, silk, sundus (fine silk), and istabraq (thick silk), all woven with gold, as were the decorations.
