Thus, many of the Muslims are those into whose hearts faith has not entered. And His saying—Mighty and Majestic is He: {They consider it a favor to you that they have accepted Islam. Say, 'Do not consider your Islam a favor to me. Rather, Allah has conferred a favor upon you that He has guided you to faith, if you should be truthful'} 1 .
He has excluded them from the definition of Faith (Iman) by establishing that they are [merely] Muslims, and He informed them that if He has graced them with Faith, then they are truly guided. Furthermore, the 'Commander' (Amir) of a thing is the one to whom the entire matter returns and its owner; the 'Commander' of a people is the one whose command is followed. The Believers (Mu'minun) have remained distinguished from the rest of his [Muhammad's] companions since the time of the Messenger of Allah, for they were sincere in their faith and in fulfilling the covenant during his life and after his death—obeying my command even unto this hour.
As for the people of doubt, negligence (taqsir), and blindness—those who do not seek illumination from the lights of Allah—they are those who opposed Allah, His Messenger, and Faith.
