The Report of the Trunk (al-'Aybab) for the People of Himyar

Among the dazzling miracles that our Lord, the Commander of the Faithful—Glorified be His Might—manifested to the people of Himyar, is a miracle documented and inscribed, mentioned in the Books of Oneness (Tawhid), known as the Report of the Trunk. We have summarized here the essential portion of it.

The spokesman for the group from Himyar said: "O Commander of the Faithful, we are a people from Himyar who have come forth for the radiance of mention, the expansion of pride, the opening of ease, and the mending of the fracture—a path in which no deviation occurs nor any leaning away from it. Reports concerning it have preceded and traditions (athar) have aligned with it; thus, thoughts are certain of its sweetness, though biographies fall short of describing it. There is no refuge except in the rain-cloud (al-sayyib), and you are the source of all that, O Commander of the Faithful, its location, its goal, and its destination. Souls have offered themselves before you; so be the support of him who hopes in you and the succor of him who seeks your aid. Remove the confusion of darkness and the gloom of obscurity with a proof that expands the chests of those of intellect through the clarity of truth and decisive speech (fasl al-khitab), casting away misfortune and regret from their understanding."
