He also showed him Abd Allah al-Saffah [the first Abbasid Caliph] and all that his kingdom encompassed—his retinue, his servants—leaving out not a single thing. This also occurred while He was heading toward the Kharijites. This report is well-known in the aforementioned book and is known as the Report of Baghdad. This was before its construction by a period of time I cannot precisely determine or count in years, for fear of exaggeration or decrease. His proofs regarding His Essence are more than can be counted; no created human can ever encompass them. Indeed, what I and all created beings have cited of His miracles—Exalted is His Power and Greatness—is only in proportion to what a bird takes in its beak from the overflow of a vast, surging ocean.
We have only cited what we have cited for the purpose of remembrance (mudhakara), spiritual enjoyment (mufakaha), and intimate fellowship (munadama) among the believing brothers—may Allah grant them all success. For the recitation of His miracles and the discussion of His Oneness (Tawhid), His proofs, and the pointers toward His Essence constitute glorification (tasbih), sanctification (taqdis), exaltation (tamjid), and [the realization of] Unity (Tawhid).
I mention what I have mentioned in this book and establish it in this discourse for those of intellect, by way of establishing the proof (burhan) to validate His Divinity (Ma'nawiyyatahu), His Pre-eternity, and His station in Primordiality—though He is entirely Self-Sufficient and beyond the need for such.
