Khosrow said: "What is the stratagem and how can we escape to our army so that we may gather to meet this Indian and fight him?" While they were in this dialogue, Khosrow cast his gaze toward the horizon and behold, the wilderness was filled with Indians! The land was teeming with them, all riding upon elephants and other sea-beasts that the people of the land—among the Arabs and non-Arabs—had never known. The entire plain was filled with them; they poured in like a swarm of locusts until they had surrounded Khosrow and Hormuz from every direction and encircled them.

That first Indian then came and settled by this Pond, which was then overflowing with water. He then commanded that Khosrow be brought before him and said to him: "It has reached me that you come every year to this place and do such-and-such, and that you have destroyed nations of people here. You had a purpose in this—to seek knowledge and to see what became of those who passed away and perished. Have you learned anything of that?"

Khosrow said to him: "O King, no one has ever returned to us, nor has there been any coming back."

So that we may know whether we are fabricators in what we are in, and toward what [end] we are departing.
