If he be one seeking strife or a duel, I shall face him, and you save yourself by returning to the seat of your kingdom.
But if he be a messenger sent from the direction of other kings to the King regarding their affairs, then the King shall see [what to do]."
O Jabir, Hormuz had witnessed all the assemblies of the Persian Kings (Akasira); he had witnessed Jesus and Simon (Sham'un), and he knew all the languages of the nations, of every sect, among both Arabs and non-Arabs ('Ajam). Khosrow said to him: "Go then to him, and see what he is." He [Hormuz] said, Jabir said: My Lord [Ali] said to me:
Hormuz drew near to the Indian, and the Indian greeted him in the Indian tongue. Hormuz responded in that same language and began to converse with him in Indian, while Khosrow listened, understanding nothing of it. When the Indian ceased his speech to Hormuz, Khosrow remained in astonishment at Hormuz and his mastery of the Indian language.
Hormuz then turned to Khosrow and said to him: "O King, this Indian informs me on behalf of the King of India that he has arrived to meet the King [Khosrow] to remove him from his sovereignty because of what has reached him concerning his tyranny and oppression." Khosrow said to him: "And where has the King of India reached? Where has he camped?" Hormuz replied: "He mentions that he is near to us."
