For example, were it not for them, from where would we know that the fig and the olive (al-tīn wa al-zaytūn) refer to two persons, namely al-Hasan and al-Husayn, glorified is the glory of both?! And that Paradise is purity (al-ṣafā’), and not a physical paradise filled with fruits, rivers, maidens (ḥūr), and youths?! And that Hell (Jahannam) consists of the descending degrees of metamorphic transmigration (darakāt al-masūkhiyyah), and not blazing pits of burning fire?! And that the folding of the sun and the darkening of the stars refer to the First and his followers?! And that the splitting of the heaven is the manifestation of the Gate (al-Bāb) with two attributes: a slapping one and a qualifying one?! And that the tree springing forth from Mount Sinai is an indication of the Unitary Essence (al-dhāt al-aḥadiyyah)?! And that the cursed tree in the Qur'an refers to the Umayyads (Banu Umayyah)?

And that the cow of the Children of Israel, the she-camel of Salih, the stone of Moses, and the ark of Noah are all indications of the Supreme Essence?! And that the hoopoe (al-hudhud) points to the Gate (al-Bāb), and the sprite (al-‘ifrīt) points to the Orphan (al-Yatīm)?! From where would we have known all of this were it not for the People of Infallibility?!
