And he, Allah sanctified him, said in the commentary on the saying of Al-Makzun:
And if the sensory witnessing deceives the soul regarding its essence,
I seek clarity through my vision within the dream of slumber.
The Erudite Sheikh said: "The meaning is: if the sensory witnessing deceives and shows me the contrary of reality, I seek clarity through deep vision—deducing via the emanation of the Divine Intellect that anyone possessing this capability could not have that as His form."
And our Master Abu Shu'ayb, unto him be submission, said: "Indeed, the heart erases what the eye sees."
Thus, the discernment between matters and knowing them for what they truly are returns to the vision of the heart, not to the vision of the eye. The eyes looked at the Creator, glorified is He, and saw Him in a human form like our forms; then the heart came and negated what the eye saw of human shapes and outlines, and affirmed other than them. Therefore, there is a negation and an affirmation—so what do we negate, and what do we affirm, so that our belief may be sound?
