or that He is a body like composite bodies that possess length, width, and depth. To distance this erroneous meaning from the minds of the people, our Sheikh, Allah purified his person—after affirming that the Creator, glorified is He, is "a thing, a body, and a light"—determined immediately thereafter that he does not intend this erroneous meaning; rather, he clarified his objective and purpose behind these utterances by his saying: "except that He is a light unlike lights, a thing unlike things, and a body unlike bodies."

All of that is to affirm that the Creator, glorified is He, is manifest and existent, yet He is contrary to all other existents, and distinct from all other entities, just as He, the Exalted, said: {There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing} 1

And our Master, the Commander of the Faithful, glorified is his glory, said: "Illusions do not reach Him so as to determine Him, intellects do not imagine Him so as to form a likeness of Him, the senses do not perceive Him so as to feel Him, and hands do not touch Him so as to encounter Him."
